A Great Heritage
Black Wall Street
In 1921 "Black Wall Street," was the name fittingly given to one of the most affluent all-Black communities in America.
The best description of Black Wall Street, or Little Africa as it was also known, would be liken it to a mini-Beverly Hills. It was the golden door of the Black community during the early 1900s, and it proved that African Americans had successful infrastructure. That's what Black Wall Street was all about.
The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times, sometimes taking a year for currency to leave the community. Now in 2016, a dollar leaves the Black community in 15-minutes. As far as resources, there were Ph.D.'s residing in Little Africa, Black attorneys and doctors. One doctor was Dr. Berry who owned the bus system. His average income was $500 a day, a hefty pocket change in 1910. Remember a loaf of bread then was only 5 cent in 1910.
During that era, physicians owned medical schools. There were also pawn shops everywhere, brothels, jewelry stores, 21 churches, 21 restaurants and two movie theaters. It was a time when the entire state of Oklahoma had only two airports, yet six Blacks owned their own planes. It was a very fascinating community.
The area encompassed over 600 businesses and 36 square blocks with a population of 15,000 African Americans.
What a rich heritage but know that Black history didn’t only exist there. God always ordained a natural and biblical inheritance for black people. Not just in Africa but in the Bible also.
After the flood with Noah the world was divided into three groups or races of people. Noah had three sons Shem –Jewish race, Ham- Black race, Japheth- white race]. [Gen. 9]
In my recent book ‘Legally Blind - To The Child in The Womb’ I share the following about black heritage in the Bible.
From the Black race came Abraham’s 3rd wife Keturah who bore him six children. One of their heirs was the priest of Midian who mentored Moses when he fled from Egypt.
Upon meeting Jethro Moses gained favor and was granted permission to marry Zipporah, who was Jethro’s daughter. This later caused a problem with Moses’ siblings, Marian and Aaron, because she was an Ethiopian woman, (Numbers 12:1).
It also points out the fact of Jethro’s natural race. Ethiopian is another word for black. Ethiopian referred to dark skinned people of African descent or Negro.
Interestingly, Jethro is described as a priest in Exodus 18:12 that reads, “And Jethro, Moses father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God and Aaron and all the elders of Israel, came and joined him in a sacrificial meal in God’s presence”. They gave thanks to the Lord for the Egyptian victory. Wow!
Yes, there is a rich heritage of black people in the Bible both spiritual and natural. Please take advantage and pick up a copy of my book you’ll be blessed to see the insight the Lord unveiled to me. However, there is a rich legacy and purpose in Black People. Many were bankers, entrepreneurs, land owners, business owners, and priests. Heirs not only to spiritual Abraham as believers but natural Abraham as well.
It’s time everyone walks in that heritage. So, arise mighty men and women of valor. Tell every uncircumcised philistine to vacate your legacy, property and business. God has ordained a great destiny for you.Let’s build the old waste places and raise up the foundations of every generation, repairer every breach and restorer broken paths. It’s time to do it again. Amen!
Shout, were taking it back. Everything the enemy has stolen. Our identity, our families, our resources, our heritage – all of it. I decree restoration and redemption. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
