When you value your sin more than righteous just behavior. The Lord who is righteous allows you to have your sin and its consequences. There are only two options in life. Blessings or cursing’s. Your way or God’s way and, that’s always been man’s choice. God has never demanded man to choose Him or His word. He created man and earth and set rules and the consequences by which man could operate to achieve the maximal benefits as a citizen.
From that point on the decision right or wrong are completely man’s. Deu. 30:19 says this day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Notice that the Lord calls on heaven and earth as witnesses to this covenant He makes with mankind. Yes, this is a covenant that will always be confirmed by heaven and earth for every generation. In loving mercy God encourages man to choose life for himself and his seed. However, again the choice is man’s and always will be.
A good example is the people in Thessalonica who did not have a love for the truth of the word. [2 Thes. 2:9-12] So the Lord sent strong delusions so they would believe a lie. Actually, He just gave them what they wanted. He left them to themselves. When God steps out of the way and strong delusions take over. You become blind to any help the truth may have offer you. Your vile passions take over and, you find yourself stumbling and stumbling not realizing a curse has taken over. It’s called a famine for the hearing of the Word. In Amos 8:10” The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.
The Israelites did not love, value, esteem hearing the truth of the word. The key word is hearing. Hearing the word which leads to obeying the word. So the Lord sent a sleep so the word became sealed to them and they saw the word but was spiritually deaf to it. Isa. 29:10-11 says ‘The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep: He has sealed your eyes…[.vs. 13] “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.
Thus because in their heart they did not value God’s word enough to obey it. It was sealed and as a curse on the land the truth could not be heard. Thus sin and disobedience flourished.
During Amos’s days King Jeroboam of Israel devised his own religious system, leading into gross idolatry. He appointed his own priesthood, established his own centers of worship. Regardless of God’s word he did it his way. Do we in American today have a famine on the hearing of the word? Has the word been sealed and we find ourselves going to and fro searching for the truth but stumbling with spiritual blindness. All a result of devaluing and disobeying the word of God.
Our nation today has swayed from the biblical perspective of truth. We have gone from Darwinism to Modernism and now Post Modernism. Darwinism said science is more important than faith. Then Modernism said that the view of the world and people should be replicable, provable and tangible or intellect mixed with the five senses. Now Post Modernism says we must deconstruct former ways of thinking in order to reconstruct a new society. In other words, no absolutes, everything based on cultural opinion. Is this an example of spiritual deafness? We have constructed laws disobeying the truth of God’s word. Taking a life in or out of the womb is murder. According to Deu. 30:19 our choice is either life or death, blessing or cursing. America has chosen death and cursing and as a result 55 million babies lie dead in the earth. Plus the wounding of many women and families.
Roe vs. Wade and its companion case Doe vs. Bolton has legalized abortion-on-demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy for any reason, Both cases were built on lies. The women at the center of each case now testify they were manipulated to promote a pro-abortion agenda. Both now are pro-life!
Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach or corruption to any people.
